Alex Lifeson – “There is no way Rush will exist again”

Almost six years after their last gig, Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson said “there is no way Rush exists again”. Citing the 2020 death of drummer Neil Peart as the reason, Lifeson offered some hope that he and Geddy Lee could one day reunite musically.

Lifeson was the guest of Eddie Trunk’s Trunk Nation Sirius XM broadcast, reflecting Rush’s history and providing an update on its current activities. Speaking to Trunk (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), the guitarist said: “I know Rush fans are a unique band, and I love them. And certainly everything we’ve done, we still have it. made to satisfy us before anyone else, and I think Rush fans got that and were always very supportive – very critical sometimes too, but always very supportive. And that was nature. about our relationship with our fans – it was a very good two-way relationship. “

While there have been discussions over the years of how the group might continue, Lifeson shares, “I think, really, Rush ended in 2015. There’s no way Rush exists in new because Neil is not there to be a part of it. “

That said, Lifeson has reaffirmed that his relationship with singer-bassist Geddy Lee remains strong. “I talk to Ged every other day or so,” he continued. “We’re trying to get together for dinner. It’s been a tougher thing lately. But we went out once recently. It’s great, because most of the time we’re friends.”

“If there’s anything coming up in the future – an opportunity for us to do something – we’ll decide over a cup of coffee what it will be,” Lifeson explained while emphasizing, “But there’s no rush or there’s no pre-thing planned now. He does everything he does, I do everything I do, and we keep up to date and stuff like that, but, God, we had such a great story and did so many good things together, it doesn’t really matter if, for the rest of our lives, we’re just best friends. “

He later added: “I get asked all the time – are we going to do this or are we going to do that? Who knows? All I know is that we still love each other and are still very dear. , very good friends, and always will be. “

Rush performed their last show on August 1, 2015. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
