COMME des GARÇONS abandons the merchandise 2021
[ad_1]
COMME des GARÃONS will literally make 2021 unforgettable, printing the year directly on the chest of your sweater. It’s a bit old-fashioned but, once again, CdG’s broadcasting rate is almost disarmingly serious.
Much of the clothing that COMME des GARÃONS makes its bones on are affordable dishes, the kind of simple stuff that is sometimes the butt of the joke on social media (see: Chucks CdG PLAY).
At the same time, CdG broadcast lines are also the source of some of the Japanese brand’s most sought-after products.
Stüssy’s latest collaboration with ultra-simple label CDG, for example, was as coveted as previous cases, and the line’s Vans sneakers are still in demand.
This new drop doesn’t actually involve LIKE sub-tags like PLAY, BLACK, or CDG, but it fills the same niche. Here, the monochrome sweatshirts and oversized tees are adorned with a handwritten branding similar to the one that graced classic CdG promotions and some of the illustrative products designed by Rei Kawakubo herself.
Concretely, these illustrations and the accompanying “2021” apparently refer to the COMME des GARÃONS 2021 advertising campaign, but you would have had to either be in Japan or buy a Japanese magazine (SWITCH, maybe?) in which the footage actually occurred.
But more than anything else, these clothes are just literal cheeky keepsakes to remember the year. Nothing crazy.
Really, the most interesting part of this drop isn’t their design: it’s that they are indicative of CdG’s merchandising prowess. They’re only available for around $ 75 each at one or two Japanese stores COMME des GARÃONS anyway.
Beyond fragrances and wallets, beyond the outposts of the Dover Street Market and the brands it runs, beyond even the notoriously unorthodox traditional clothing, COMME des GARÃONS is capable of producing products just as well. than anyone else.
