Found Glory’s New Guitarist Chad Gilbert Announces He’s “Cancer Free”
Shortly before the end of 2021, it was revealed that New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert had been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called pheochromocytoma. But as the calendar turns to 2022, there’s good news for the musician as he announces he’s now “cancer-free”.
Gilbert previously posted that he underwent successful surgery to remove a tumor in December, but not before the musician’s wife saved his life after finding him unconscious in bed.
“I woke up drenched in sweat the last few days and we thought I was sick,” Gilbert revealed when announcing his diagnosis in December. “Unable to wake me up, she called 911 and performed CPR and mouth to mouth. Apparently I was doing something called ‘agonal breathing’ and I was minutes from death. I woke up with seven paramedics around my bed. I was so confused. My blood sugar dropped to 20 and if my wife hadn’t found me I would have gone into a coma or died.”
After meeting with a doctor, Gilbert was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called pheochromocytoma, which he described as “a tumor that grows on your adrenal gland and disrupts all of your hormones.”
After undergoing surgery to remove the tumor, Gilbert reveals in his latest post, “Half a liver, gall bladder and adrenal gland later, I’m officially cancer free. All my tests and scans came back clear!”
The guitarist shared the happy news along with photos from his hospital stay and recovery in an Instagram post below.
Half a liver, gall bladder and adrenal gland later, I’m officially cancer free. All my tests and scans came back clear! I know there’s a chance it will come back later, but I feel so good knowing that what was inside me is gone and if it ever comes back, we’ll see it from the start. Don’t even care. I’m so lucky to still be here and so lucky to have a great team that fixed me. My endocrinologist, surgeon, and oncologist teamed up and cleared my pheochromocytoma faster and more efficiently than the Avengers could defeat Thanos in Infinity War. Love them and I’m forever grateful. And again the biggest I love you and thank you to my wife for being tough, brave and saving me. Getting me through it all and staying by my side while taking care of our little girl Lily at home.
My whole family of intensive care nurses who I lived with for 2 weeks, who had to check me every hour to ensure my safety. Thanks thanks!!! All of you fans write me the most beautiful messages when you all find out what happened. You already do enough as fans, but it was awesome and I felt loved. I am forever changed by this experience. 2022 is going to be awesome!!! Will be rocking in your faces soon enough. God protects you !
Congratulations to Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory and his family and we look forward to seeing him again soon.
