Jackson Browne announces new album ‘Downhill From Everywhere’
Jackson Browne has announced a new album, Descent from everywhere. The LP, his first in six years, will arrive on July 23.
“On the surface, it’s about living in Los Angeles,” Browne said in a press release. “But it’s really a metaphor for life itself. I love this city, but I’ve been trying to leave since around the time I finished my first album. You can love and appreciate and depend on it. ‘a life as you know it, but deep down below, you can also aspire to something else, even if you don’t know what it is.
Nonetheless, Browne stayed close to home for the album. “Lately, I find that a lot of the writing process takes place in the studio,” he noted. “Music is informed by how everyone interacts with it in the room, and there’s this journey of exploration, cutting and recutting that can take you to places where you never would have ended up. -even.”
This process has also led Browne to some interesting collaborations. Browne shared a new single, “My Cleveland Heart,” with a video featuring acclaimed singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers. The couple have already collaborated. Earlier this year, Bridgers invited Browne to join her for a performance of her song “Kyoto”.

“What an honor to collaborate with Jackson,” said video director Alissa Torvinen, whom Browne chose after seeing her video for Bridgers “I Know the End.” “His creativity is inspiring, not only in the music, but in everything he puts on his. We came up with a script for the video by chance, and Phoebe who joined us was a wonderful surprise. received Jackson’s heart and the photo she looked at from behind the scenes.
“I thought it was really appropriate to take out my worn out and useless heart and give it to Phoebe,” Browne told Rolling stone. “Who better to hand [it] to someone young, strong and maybe as cynical as me?
Last year Browne released a song called “Downhill From Everywhere”. While no tracklist has yet been announced for the album, the song will likely be on it.
Starting in July, just days after the album’s release, Browne will hit the road alongside James Taylor for a series of North American shows. “Of course, we will keep a close eye and adhere to all health and safety protocols in every site and state,” they said in a joint statement. “We can’t wait to get back on stage and see you soon.”
