Nikki sixx (MOTLEY CRUE), Rob zombie, John 5 (ROB ZOMBIE, MARILYN MANSON) and Tommy clfetos (OZZY OSBOURNE, BLACK SABBAT, ROB ZOMBIE) recently joined forces in a new project called THE RATS. The quartet got together expressly to record a cover of “I have been everywhere” for the soundtrack of the next film “The ice road”. “I have been everywhere” is a song written by an Australian country singer Geoff mack in 1959, and made popular by Lucky star in 1962.
The official animation clip of THE RATS‘version of “I have been everywhere” can be seen below.
When Scott Borchetta called his friend Sixx, he knew he needed something with speed, power, and speed. Responsible for conducting the soundtrack of “The ice road”, the founder of the visionary label wanted a “psycho-billy” rock track to anchor an eclectic collection of songs sampling the array of American roots music. Chat with bassist and songwriter Full Tilt about a dream collaboration between Sixx, Rob zombie and John 5 possibly the writing and executive production of a song for the film, Sixx request Borchetta to send him an example of the kind of song he was considering for the soundtrack. Johnny cashit beats “I have been everywhere” was already pointed out as a hope to be included in the movie because it really synthesizes everything the movie is about. Nikki listened to then sent to Zombie. The two rockers felt the iconic Cash track was the perfect song for them to record. Sixx called Borchetta back and said, “Why don’t you just cut that off?”
The guys were all in on the song checking the names of towns across the country – and Zombie had the vocal knotting to bring that weathered, long-lasting tone to the song which spent 22 weeks at No.1 for Hank Snow in 1962. Opening onto a threatening audible cloud and industrial noise, an infernal train rhythm emerges from the heavy sound wave. Zombiethe voice slices through the ballast, bossy and rude. Commanding the journey that begins “I was packing my bag along the dusty road to Winnemucca”, his guttural delivery body types Cashintensity with the drummer Tommy Clfetos‘s crashing attack.
Laughing, Sixx said of the THE RATS and their affinity for that tough travel song, “Isn’t that ironic? This song that’s so rock and roll, that’s so country, that’s so much it – it’s the traveling circus, from town to town. , riff to riff, fat cheeseburger It’s poetry based on reality – and it’s something each of us has experienced.
“We wanted to bring this fire which is Johnny cash, but that’s also how we flip it? âhe continues.â So John 5 and I brought this ZEPPELIN-y half time thing from the start with Rob talking on the outro. But I also did stuff (which suggested the original) like these big walks through the straight player style guitar parts, which I don’t do in HETEROCLITIS or SIXX: AM We all had this freedom to go elsewhere, and we did. “
Working together for the track, the union of Zombie, Sixx, John 5, who was raised on “Hee Haw”, and BLACK SABBATH/TED NUGENT/ALICE COOPER drummer Cluffetos created a chemistry that was more than the sum of their parts. With a thrill that comes in equal parts from rebellion, aggression, fierce musicality and a deep respect for the song, “I have been everywhere” embodies the intensity of “The ice road” and Neesonthe performance of.
“We all grew up thinking that large groups don’t respect the rules and don’t limit speed” Sixx Explain. “When I called Rob high he said, ‘I’ve always loved Johnny cash, and I’ve always loved this song. ‘ I think that’s what we all share: we all play live and know that there is this magic (which comes from there); there is the swagger that you can feel, that energy that you can feel. This song has it all, and that’s what we were looking for. “
