ABBA returned to its historic past with “Just a Notion”, the third track from the band’s upcoming reunion album. Trip.
It was originally written in 1978 for the group Would you LP, but then dropped the final version. ABBA updated the instrumental tracks, but retained the original vocals from 43 years ago. âJust a Notionâ can be heard below.
Bjorn Ulvaeus admitted he had no idea why “Just a Notion” was not on the original songlist. âIt’s a good song with great vocals,â he said in a press release. âI know we played it to a publisher in France and a few other people we trusted, and as far as I can remember they liked it a lot. So it is a mystery and it will remain a mystery. He described “Just a Notion” as a “ridiculously happy song,” adding, “Hope this will cheer you up in these dark times!”
ABBA released two new tracks in August, “I Still Have Faith in You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down”, and confirmed the Trip The album would arrive on November 5. They also announced a concert residency in London that features digital versions of the members performing alongside a live band, presented in a custom-built venue.
âIn a way, ‘Just a Notion’ demonstrates what we plan to do with ABBA Voyage in 2022,â Ulvaeus added. “There we’ll have a live band, but all the vocals will be from the old recordings.”
Band member Benny Anderson earlier described ABBA’s tech-driven comeback as “navigating uncharted waters. With the help of our young people, we travel to the future. It’s not easy to explain, but it hasn’t been done before. When you come into the arena you will find the four of us with an absolutely glorious group of 10 musicians. And even if it’s not in the flesh, we’ll be there. “
