Giving New Wave a bit of Nordic courage, Low Hummer has continually impressed post-punk upstarts with a lot of attitude closely related to their indie disko bangers. Now, with the release of the new single “The People, This Place”, they are also announcing the news of their highly anticipated debut album!
A sequel to their shoegaze-inspired song “Never Enough”, named on Radio 1’s “Track of the Week” by the BBC, “The People, This Place” is their latest barbed wire anthem that reveals a more difficult edge for a band that has already picked for catchy, synth-led singles, and sees the growing group at odds with their own community.
“The People, This Place” will appear on the Hull-based quintet’s debut album, which they now reveal is titled Modern tips for Living and gives a definitive Nordic account of boredom and alienation, as singer / guitarist Dan Mawer explains:
âWe can’t wait to release our first album! Our lonely album during such overwhelming times. The record shows how we, a group of misfits, felt isolated from popular culture, isolated from love, and how we all went through physical isolation! “Modern Tricks for Living” doesn’t provide any sort of wisdom for navigating modern society, but perhaps just shows how a bunch of Hull outsiders are doing. “The People This Place” was the last track we needed to complete “Modern Tricks For Living”, so it sounds like the song of the person to launch the album with. “

Modern tips for living was recorded with producer Matt Peel at The Nave studio and is slated for release on September 17th by Dance On the radio; the Leeds label famous for its roster of innovative artists with an authentic voice that includes ¡Forward, Russia !, I Like Trains and The Pigeon Detectives.
