Megadeth’s Dirk Verbeuren pays tribute to Soilwork’s David Andersson

Dirk Verbeuren, the Belgian musician who is currently the drummer of Megadeth, gave a touching memory of David Andersson, the Swedish guitarist who recently passed away at the age of 47. Verbeuren and Andersson were bandmates in melodic death metal band Soilwork until Verbeuren left the band in 2016.
Andersson had joined Soilwork in 2012 and remained with the group until his death. The guitarist was also a member of hard rock band The Night Flight Orchestra with Soilwork lead singer Björn “Speed” Strid. Soilwork revealed Andersson’s death to fans in a statement to social media on Wednesday (September 14).

Verbeuren says, “David knew how to have a good laugh. Whether he was clumsy, making ingenious observations, or impersonating a band we were touring with in his brilliant way, he kept us laughing all the time. His mood was generally light-hearted. He apparently went through life carefree, never taking anything too seriously – perhaps sometimes to his own detriment.”
The drummer continues: “If you have listened to recent songs [Soilwork or The Night Flight Orchestra], you know David was a master of inventive riffs and melodies. … It’s funny to think that David often wrote songs while lounging in his bathtub – but not surprising if you knew the man’s penchant for rolling around naked.”

Verbeuren adds: “Beneath all this silliness, there was a darkness that has unfortunately taken over David’s life in recent years. 47 is way too young and I’m disgusted to see another former member of the band leave so soon. .My heart breaks for his ex-wife and children, and for his family, friends and bandmates.”
Wednesday, tillage says“We are deeply saddened today as we hear the terrible news that David Andersson has passed away. He was one of a kind and a brilliant man in so many ways. He was our guitarist for over 10 years and had a big impact on Soilwork’s musical journey forward.”
They added, “Sadly, alcohol and mental illness have kept you away from us. He will be greatly missed and we will continue to carry on the musical legacy of which he was a part. Our deepest condolences go out to his family.”
Loudwire sends condolences to the members of Soilwork, The Night Flight Orchestra, Verbeuren and all of Andersson’s family, friends and comrades.
