Diablo is releasing a compilation of current rockabilly, psychobilly and garage bands. Give Them A Slap Vol. 2 is a delight for tapping your foot and slamming bass.
Diablo Records specializes in rockabilly, psychobilly and garage bands, keeping alive a genre that, while somewhat marginalized, is still going strong. This compilation, which follows on from Give ’em A Slap Volume 1 of 2014, is described as âone of the best⦠compilations around. (Having) heard from over 50 bands, here are the 16 (we have) chosen. ‘
Right from the start of the first song, Gorilla’s Karolitve, it’s hard not to agree with this opinion, because over the 16 tracks it’s a stomping delight, with very little drop in quality. Rockabilly, and its psychobilly and garage ramifications, has always been one of the most exciting forms of rock n roll, reminiscent of the original rock n roll shock of the 50s and teenage years. This compilation brings together groups from Hungary, Copenhagen, London, Mexico, Basque Country, France, Rotterdam, Sao Paulo, Finland, Cornwall and Hong Kong. It’s truly an international mix of manic rockabilly, psychobilly power and garage spin.
Highlights include the 50s twang of Moonshine Stalkers’ Eye Spy, the short and gorgeous Los Curenos del Diablo by The Machetes, the crazy basses of Voices In My head by Dead Rabbits, the maniacal sax rhythm of Take Me Home by Screamers & Sinners, the chills down the spines of LTW The Eyelids favorites with You Make Me A Zombie, the 50s dancing charms of Time Bomb Girls’ Sobranclha Sevagem and the cool Hong Kong Stomp of The Triplejacks.
It’s a great selection that should allow you to research individual bands and, if you haven’t already, experience a scene that’s still going strong based on the music here.
Music for hot rods.
