The Utahns, in some ways, have two big vacations in July, and one of them is so unique to us that it has spawned a third counter-cultural response in recent years. Pie and Beer Day has joined Pioneer Day as a way to celebrate July 24, and we love having both options. And whether you are celebrating the long journey of Mormon settlers across the West to the “right place” or dismissing this eventful past by making yourself buzz with local beers and locally made pies, we have musical features to accentuate your celebrations. This overview comes a little early, to give you the opportunity to decide once and for all: pioneers, or pie and beer?
The day before the pie and beer at the Uinta brewery. Although it seems like new cool and trendy breweries pop up in handfuls every year, Uinta remains one of the best OG breweries. Their beers are reliable favorites, from their 801 and Cutthroat multi-packs to their big boys Lime Pilsner. If you’re already a die-hard fan, take a special hike yourself to their brewery at 1722 S. Fremont Drive and try some of their more limited draft beers and also enjoy the music at the same time. Uinta grabbed a few valley favorites in Vincent Draper & the Culls along with their musician friends, Folk Hogan, for a Pie and Beer Day celebration on Friday, July 23. The event is free, starts at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 9:30 a.m., so you can get home early enough to have enough vim and stamina to drink more beers and eat more pie on the real day. Pie and Beer Day, Saturday June 24. Visit facebook.com/FOLKHOGAN for more details, and see below the events you should plan for your Saturday.
Pie and Beer Day Fest presented by Cory Mon. While it’s not clear whether the wood-fired pies promised at this event will be pizza pies or buttery, flaky, crispy pies, this pie and beer festival will certainly serve a lot of good local music. This full-day event is perfect for droppers shopping around for parties and pies, starting at 2 p.m. with music from SLC’s psychedelic jam group Gorgeous Gourds. They’ll be followed by an entire day and night, with River Arrow at 3:10 p.m., Donnie Bonelli at 3:50 p.m., Kenzie Leigh at 4:30 p.m., Jeff Stone at 5:40 p.m., Keith Callister at 6:20 p.m., SwayDancer at 7 p.m., Mark Smith at 8 p.m. and l party host Cory Mon at 8:50 p.m. Mon and his band are known for their partying ways, so get ready to end your night deservedly with their ensemble. The event is free, but considering the number of bands playing, there is a recommended donation of $ 25. The event ends at 10:30 p.m. Visit bit.ly/36fjdpY for more information on how to get there.
Pie and beer, but do it gothic at Club Area 51. For fans of Club Area 51 fetish parties, or goth, New Wave and post-punk parties like Plastic Passion or Goth Prom, this is perhaps the most counter-cultural event in one of our counter-cultural venues. most classic cultures. Celebrate Pie and Beer Day at Club Area 51’s two-night “Pie N Beer” event, which kicks off Friday July 23 and runs through Saturday July 24. Both events are free before 10pm, a usual factor on the site. The multi-room space will offer on-demand dance music upstairs, their signature cocktail of gothic, industrial, post-punk and dark 80s dance music in the downstairs bar and downstairs. karaoke in the third space. A free pie will be present, but only for a limited time, and drink specials include the $ 3 Fireball Spirits Pie and $ 3 Coronas shots. Doors are at 9 p.m. and the event ends at 2 a.m. facebook.com/ClubArea51SLC for more information.
Five Wives Pioneer Day Party at The Westerner. You thought we were going to leave out the usual old Pioneer Day events, right? The point is, they’re not nearly as fun to write, unless we talk about that next Pioneer Party at The Westerner. SLC’s premier country music venue is teaming up with Five Wives Vodka for a local pioneer-themed night of merriment. Featuring the tunes of the outlaw group SLC Bulletproof, the night is just $ 10, with free table reservations available at westernerslc.com/reservations. And while there is no pie at this event, the drink specials certainly have a flavor of it – in addition to the Green Jell-O Shots enriched with Five Wives Vodka, there will be themed cocktails and flavors from Five Wives like their Heavenly Vanilla and Cinnamon Sinful Vodkas, as well as Porter’s Fire, Porter’s Peach and Porter’s Apple. It looks a bit like a pie in a shot glass to me. The festivities start at 6 p.m., and more information can be found at westernerslc.com.
