NIGO opens the Blue Bottle cafe in the HUMAN MADE store 1928

Boy, does Nigo like Blue Bottle coffee. Maybe it’s the signature blends, maybe it’s the vibe of the Nakameguro place he frequents – whatever it is, he’s here for life, or at least as long as his brand. HUMAN MADE retains its streetwear dominance. To signify Nigo’s undying loyalty, his label’s Kyoto flagship, HUMAN MADE 1928, has just been upgraded with its own Blue Bottle coffee, featuring exclusive items and treats.
This follows last month’s surprise partnership, in which Nigo concocted custom staff uniforms, collaborative apparel and a bespoke Future Blend for the California chain’s new Shibuya space. The usual HUMAN MADE ethic was fully on display in the durable cotton T-shirts and co-branded heart designs, all returning to launch the Internal Outpost, a first for Blue Bottle. Sure, it has stores in malls around the world – including the legendary Ginza Six and IFC Hong Kong – but this is the first time Blue Bottle has been integrated into a standalone store.
HUMAN MADE 1928 has already shed light on various elements of Nigo’s inimitable aesthetic, including HUMAN MADE clothing, housewares and the occasional snack, but this cafe is a much more complex endeavor. This is a fully functional blue bottle, which retains the company’s signature wood counters and sleek angular shapes, as well as a healthy stock of Nigo’s exclusive Future Blend. Like the other blue bottles, the HUMAN MADE iteration will also sell coffee products and hardware, but these have received the required HUMAN MADE makeover.
Eight unique items have been subtly altered to meet Nigo’s exacting standards. These range from ceramic mugs and shatterproof tumblers to even a bespoke pour-out set, all adorned with that understated blue co-branding. Future Blend fans can shop for bags on site and sample heart-shaped candy made by Kagizen Yoshifusa – a historic Kyoto tea house hundreds of years old – especially for Nigo’s new location.
The Blue Bottle Special Collectibles launched on the HUMAN MADE website on May 25, the same date the cafe opened at HUMAN MADE 1928. The Future Blend and Kagizen Yoshifusa Special Treats are only available in shop.
