You will have until Friday noon ET to vote. We’ll then play the three tracks with the most votes during the Loudwire Nights Artist of the Week block to start the following Monday’s show!
This week our featured artist is Led Zeppelin, who is often cited as the greatest hard rock band of all time – and is sometimes even considered one of the very first heavy metal bands.
Led Zeppelin was formed in England around 1968 when Jimmy Page of the Yardbirds recruited Robert Plant on vocals, who then suggested local drummer John Bonham. Bassist John Paul Jones was the last to join us. They always performed under the name The Yardbirds during their first concerts, and they played their first gig as Led Zeppelin October 25, 1968.
The quartet created a remarkable sound that had not been produced by any other band before – the howls of Plant combined with the powerful riffs of Plant, the rhythm of Jones and the absolutely thundering percussion of Bonham were brought together in a self-titled debut album released. January 12. 1969. The record was certified gold in the United States just a few months after its release, and Led Zeppelin was on its way to becoming the biggest band in the world.
Led Zeppelin released seven more albums over the next decade, but their careers were cut short when Bonham tragically passed away in September 1980. They were rehearsing for an upcoming tour. Two months later, the group announced that they would not continue without their partner and that Led Zeppelin was no more.
More than five decades later, Led Zeppelin remains one of the most influential groups of all time. Countless contemporary artists point to Bonham’s drums, the innovative nature of Page and the band as a whole as a source of inspiration. Head down below to vote for your favorite song, and tune in to Loudwire Nights next Monday at 7 p.m. ET to check out the three tracks that prevailed.
Tune in tonight to hear the three Green Day songs you voted best!
