This week our featured artist is Green Day, one of the biggest bands in the American punk revival of the 90s.
Billie Joe Armstrong formed Green Day in California around 1986 with bassist Mike Dirnt. They released a few albums in 1990 and 1991, but that was in 1994 Dookie which really caught them the attention of the general public, especially songs like “Basket Case” and “Longview”. The record has since sold around 20 million copies and is known as their real breakthrough.
A few years later they had a second massive breakthrough with the years 2004 American idiot, and although he hasn’t caught up yet Dookie in sales, he received his own adaptation of Broadway, which officially opened in 2010. They have released six more studio albums since. American idiot, their most recent being last year Father of all motherfuckers.
