The Strokes to headline this Ain’t No Picnic festival
A years-delayed Goldenvoice festival at SoCal announced its new lineup on Friday – but no, it’s not Coachella.
This Ain’t No Picnic, a cover of a late ’90s Irvine festival from the longtime LA concert promoter, will make an extremely late return to Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on August 27-28.
The lineup, therefore, is aimed directly at the older, slightly grizzled millennial audience who might have attended the first edition in high school, as well as a rich palette of underground rock and electronic acts.
Alternative stars based in New York will be the stars of Strokes and LCD Soundsystem.
The festival will also feature the reunited “Deceptacon” dance-punks Le Tigre, who will perform their first show in 12 years; Phoebe Bridgers of Pasadena; British soul singer Jorja Smith; and old punks (Circle Jerks, Descendents) and new punk-inspired groups (Turnstile, Idles and Yves Tumor).
Also on the note list is Best New Grammy Nominated Artist Arooj Aftab; the stars of recent Sparks documentaries; grungy Californian newcomers Hana Vu and King Woman; the booming indie duo Wet Leg; the virtuosos of the Maghrebian guitar Mdou Moctar; Crazy synth-pop from Magdalena Bay and 2000s hip-hop from Ying Yang Twins.
The Brookside on the site of the Rose Bowl recently hosted another Goldenvoice festival, 88 Rising’s Head in the Clouds.
Tickets, which start at $ 299, go on sale December 9.
