‘We are not talking to David’
David Crosby and Graham Nash spoke of the lingering personal friction that likely prevented a full reunion of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
“Stephen [Stills] and Neil [Young] and I’m awesome, ”Nash said CBS Sunday morning. “We talk often. We don’t talk to David.”
Crosby, in a separately filmed interview, noted, “I don’t expect to be friends with Graham at any time. Neil hates my guts.… I said bad things about his girlfriend.” (In 2014, Crosby called Young’s girlfriend Daryl Hannah a “purely toxic predator” – for which he later apologized.) When asked if he regretted his criticism, he replied: ” Yes of course.
Nash reflected on the challenges of picking up a band after the “silver thread that connects [it] is breaking. “
“It doesn’t quite work,” he said. “And so, things that happen to me [and] David’s life broke that silver thread, and for the life of me, I can’t put it back together. When asked if he wished he could repair this damage, he replied, “Yes, I do. I wish I could have done it, just because of the loss of the music. “
Young, who did not participate in the CBS interview, said in 2019 that he would not “close the door” to a meeting, although it would be a “surprise” if it did.
“Crosby should write an introspective book: Why people don’t talk to me anymoreYoung told AARP. “He made a lot of good music for a long time. I don’t know what happened with David. I have nothing to say. I love Stephen [Stills]. I love graham [Nash]. … I can hold a grudge against the best of them, but only if there’s a reason for it.
Crosby and Nash, along with Stills, spoke to CBS for a video segment celebrating CSNY’s 50th anniversary Already seen LP. The band recently marked the occasion with a luxury box set including the original LP and four demo CDs, unreleased studio recordings and alternate song versions.
