INTERVIEW -Vijay Mistry on Industry Panel Sessions
Takeoff is a new series of panels taking place at 2Funky Music Cafe. The sessions are aimed at those hoping to break into the music industry and provide the opportunity to learn from those already pursuing a career in music. The first session takes place on Wednesday September 29.
Tell us about Takeoff and the next panel series?
We host a series of free industry panels and networking opportunities for local artists of all genres. They will be hosted monthly with the premiere on Wednesday September 29 at 2Funky Music Cafe with guest artist Donae’o.
How useful will they be to independent artists and those looking to break into the industry?
We have amazing panel members with extensive industry knowledge who have worked at major record labels and manage successful artists. This is a great opportunity to listen and ask questions of the panel. There is also a networking event afterwards so that the artists can hopefully find some great musical contacts in the venue and collaborate in the future.
Tell us about some of the topics that will be covered in the sessions?
TThe first is âBeing an independent artistâ. Artists will receive valuable advice on how to be successful in the industry from real professionals. Other upcoming topics include –
⢠Marketing for artists
⢠Media training
⢠Live music – Hit the road and do shows
How important is it for 2Funky to offer this support to new artists?
We have always believed in the development of artists and have supported local artists for over 20 years by providing them with opportunities, whether it’s industry panels, open mics or performances.
How did you recruit the panelists you involved?
Thanks to our contacts in the music industry, we have been looking for them in recent months and we are really satisfied with the final trainings. Although they all come from all over the UK, we have kept at least one panel member from Leicester to maintain the local connection.
Do you think Leicester is a good place for independent artists to grow and learn?
I think it’s an amazing place and there is so much talent in Leicester. There have been so many success stories recently with Easy Life and Mahalia. I think it really shows other artists what can be achieved and makes them want to go further.
How many sessions will there be and how can people register?
There will be 6 sessions in total over the next 6 months and free tickets can be purchased through skidle.com
