Yes Play Intimate Warm-Up Show before “Close to the Edge” Tour

Yes played an intimate warm-up show last night in Tavistock, England ahead of their near the edge 50th Anniversary Tour. The concert, held at Tavistock Wharf with a capacity of 400, would have followed a week of on-site production rehearsals.
According Setlist.fmthe progressive rock band opened with “On the Silent Wings of Freedom,” a climax of their divisive 1978 LP, tomato. Six other pieces were taken from their first repertoire: a cover of “No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed” by Richie Havens (1970s time and a word), “Heart of the Sunrise” (1971’s Brittle), “Yours Is No Disgrace” and Steve Howe’s solo acoustic guitar track “Clap” (1971’s Yes album), “Wonderful Stories” (1977’s go for one) and “Is this really happening?” (1980s Drama).

Between these classics were the live debut of “The Ice Bridge” and “Dare to Know”, two tracks from their latest studio album, 2021 The quest. After the first set, the band played all the songs from 1972 near the edge (the epic title track, “And You and I” and “Siberian Khatru”) and returned for a two-song encore of 1971’s “Roundabout” and “Starship Trooper”.

The lineup included Howe, keyboardist Geoff Downes, bassist Billy Sherwood, singer-guitarist Jon Davison and drummer Jay Schellen. The latter previously served as live backing drummer alongside veteran member Alan White, but Schellen has now taken over the lead role following White’s death last month.
Yes’ near the edge The tour will continue on June 15 in Glasgow and, at the time of this writing, will conclude on September 9 in Nagoya, Japan. Meanwhile, former vocalist Jon Anderson will celebrate the album with a 50th anniversary tour, a North American run that kicks off July 7 in Plymouth, NH.
